About WeatherSignal

WeatherSignal is a free public weather and disruption portal. It takes official and open weather data and turns it into answers you can act on in a few seconds.

What WeatherSignal is

WeatherSignal is an informational weather service. You type in any location in the world — or let the site detect one — and get current conditions, an hour-by-hour forecast, a seven-day outlook, active official warnings, air quality, radar, sunrise and sunset, and the practical WeatherSignal checks that sit on top of all of it.

Everything is free to read. There is no account, no paywall, and no login required for any weather information on this site.

What it provides

  • Current conditions and feels-like temperature for locations worldwide
  • Hourly forecast for the next 24 hours and a 7-day outlook
  • Active official watches, warnings, and advisories, shown with the issuing agency and expiration
  • Air quality readings with the published category guidance for the scale in use
  • Radar access, travel and outdoor conditions, and infrastructure/network incident monitoring
  • WeatherSignal practical checks — Today's Weather Score, Umbrella or Nah?, Best Time Today, Car Wash Check, Dog Walk Window, Cookout Check, Windows Down?, Hair Weather

Why it exists

Most weather pages hand you a wall of numbers and leave the interpretation to you. Reading “62% precipitation probability at 15:00, dew point 71°F, wind 19 mph” is not the same as knowing whether to take an umbrella, when to walk the dog, or whether the cookout is still on. WeatherSignal exists to close that gap without dumbing the data down — every answer shows the numbers it came from.

How WeatherSignal differs from a raw weather feed

WeatherSignal does not produce forecasts or issue warnings. Meteorological agencies and open forecast models do that. What WeatherSignal adds is a product layer:

  • Normalization — several providers with different units, codes, and time bases are converted into one consistent schema.
  • Deterministic calculations — scores, windows, and checks computed with published, fixed thresholds. No AI guesses the weather here.
  • Plain-language explanation — each answer states the values it used, so you can disagree with it.
  • Visible freshness — every panel shows when the source published the data and when WeatherSignal last checked it, and flags stale data instead of hiding it.
  • Prioritized severe weather — official warnings appear above WeatherSignal content, never below it and never behind an ad.

The exact formulas are documented on our methodology page, and every provider we use is listed on our data sources page.

An informational service

WeatherSignal is informational only. It does not replace official warnings, forecasts, or guidance from national weather services, emergency management agencies, or other government authorities, and it does not provide medical, emergency, safety, legal, or financial advice. During severe weather, follow the instructions issued by official authorities.

Who operates WeatherSignal

WeatherSignal is operated by BAIFI Analytics and Defense LLC, doing business as WeatherSignal.

How WeatherSignal is funded

WeatherSignal is free and funded by voluntary donations and, in future, advertising. Donating does not unlock features, improve forecast accuracy, or affect alert delivery in any way — it only helps cover data and hosting costs.

WeatherSignal is free for everyone — every page, every location, no accounts and no paywalls. Donations cover the servers and data bandwidth. Give whatever amount you want.
